Story of the Variety
In the Lebedyan region, Spartan has found its perfect terroir. Our autumn days provide the necessary time for the fruit to ripen slowly, developing that signature spicy sweetness with a vinous undertone.

We harvest each apple with care, making sure to preserve that noble bloom—a seal of quality that speaks to its exceptional maturity and depth.

As they ripen, the skins take on a deep, dark red—almost plum-like—hue, earning Spartan a reputation as one of the most «noble-looking» varieties.

Its thick, waxy bloom is more than just protection; it is a mark of distinction, a charm unique to this classic variety.

The name «Spartan» was chosen for a reason. It evokes the understated strength and discipline of the ancient Spartans: the variety proved to be hardy, reliable, and consistently productive.

Mature trees are capable of yielding an impressive 220–330 lbs of apples.

A Canadian Aristocrat
Spartan was bred in Canada in 1926 at the Summerland Experimental Station in British Columbia.

Breeder R. C. Palmer crossed McIntosh and Yellow Newtown, aiming to create a bold-flavored variety suited for commercial success—combining high yields with excellent shelf life. Introduced to Russia in 1986, it quickly became a favorite thanks to its remarkable qualities.
