About the Spartan variety
Sustained depth. This is an apple made to be tasted. "Spartan" is a real Canadian aristocrat, bred at the beginning of the last century. Caring for Spartan is like caring for an old vineyard. You appreciate his slowness. It opens up over time, leaving a feeling of depth and maturity.
History of the Spartan variety
Canadian aristocrat with character. Bred in 1926 in Summerland (British Columbia, Canada). Its author, breeder R. Palmer, crossed two bright varieties - “MacIntosh” and “Yellow Newtown”.
But it was a long journey - Spartan arrived in Russia only in 1986, crossing seas and continents to adapt to our harsh realities. And in the Lebedyansky region he found his ideal “terroir”. He quickly rose to the top in terms of yield and now embodies the best features of both worlds - Canadian maturity and Russian sustainability.
Its name refers to the restrained strength of the ancient Spartans. Spartana trees are hardy, reliable and consistently productive. Mature trees can produce 100–150 kg of delicious fruit. The apple tree begins to bear fruit already in 3–4 years, delighting with its stability and beauty.
