Why do trees need pruning

Why do trees need pruning?

When you look at an apple tree in the spring, it’s hard to imagine that some of its branches will soon be cut off. It seems: why touch a living tree if it is already growing?

In fact pruning one of the most gentle processes in the garden. It helps the tree stay healthy, develop properly and bear fruit consistently.

If you do not prune, the crown thickens over time: the branches begin to interfere with each other, they receive less light and nutrition, and the fruits become smaller.

Pruning solves several problems at once:

Shape and light

Helps shape the crown and allow light to reach the fruit

Health

Reduces the risk of diseases and pests

Growth

Stimulates the growth of new fruit branches

Taste

Affects the size and taste of apples

This is not a one-time procedure, but a regular process. The tree changes from season to season, and pruning is a way to maintain balance with it. It is usually carried out during the dormant period in late winter or early spring, when the tree can more easily tolerate pruning.

“And although pruning looks like a radical action from the outside, it is a natural renewal mechanism for the tree and does not hurt it. After the cut, the tree starts protective processes and gradually restores tissue.”

Therefore, pruning is a manifestation of attention and respect for the tree. Thanks to it, apple trees remain healthy and continue to bear fruit consistently from year to year.
